The West Vancouver Memorial Library has an opening for a Student Librarian to work on two teams: Digital Experience (Technology) and Youth. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about public libraries to work with both kids and adults, with a focus on seniors.

Both departments are driven, inspired, and known throughout the province for innovation, responsiveness, and leadership. Reporting to the Digital Experience Coordinator - duties will include, but are not limited to (with assistance from a Librarian):

• Assisting patrons with new technologies to meet a variety of information needs at the Community Computing Centre (CCC) public service desk

• Assisting kids and families with reader’s advisory and reference at the Youth Department public service desk

• Programming with an emphasis on middle years (ages 9-12) and adult technology classes. As much as possible, we try to align programs and projects with our Student Librarian’s areas of interest and passion, while also providing new experiences and opportunities to grow their resume.

Candidates should be enrolled in SLAIS: the iSchool at UBC or an equivalent program at another educational institution, in their second year of study and pursuing a MLIS degree. Essential requirements are:

• a passion for customer service and connecting people with online library resources and programs

• a strong interest in or previous experience with mobile technology, apps and instructional design

• excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• experience or interest/comfort working with both kids and seniors

• experience with accessing and downloading digital content (ex: e-books, e-audiobooks)

• the ability to work well as part of a team

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary)

Starting Rate of Pay: $27.03 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits
